Great start for Edinburgh Ladies
Edinburgh University Ladies have made a flying start to the season with a 24 – 5 victory over Dundee University. A bright afternoon welcomed the team to Dundee.

Edinburgh kicked off but quickly regained possession with an opening tackle from open flanker Nikki McLeod. Pressure by Edinburgh pushed Dundee back into their own half but Dundee fought back and after winning the ball winger Jen Watson made a break down the left wing to put Dundee in front 5-0.

Sustained pressure from Edinburgh after the restart pushed Dundee back into their 22 and allowed full back Anna Fleming to see space on the left wing and attempt to score Edinburgh’s first try. Dundee’s defence however was too strong and the try was held up. Despite Edinburgh’s best attempts to break through Dundee’s defence they remained unsuccessful leaving the score at 5-0 at half time.

Dundee started the second half with the kick off and Edinburgh quickly pushing their way into Dundee’s 22. A set of strong scrums for Edinburgh on the 5m line looked promising for Edinburgh however Dundee’s defence once again left tries from number 8 Rosalind Murphy and full back Anna Fleming held up.

A 22 drop out from Dundee allowed Edinburgh to once again take possession and saw left winger Cat Ward breaking down the wing to score. The try was converted by fly half Maddy Grant taking Edinburgh into the lead 7-5.

A kick by Grant after the restart saw Ward taking another try for Edinburgh in the left corner. This was again converted by Grant taking the score to 14-5.

After great break from captain Lucy Allen and number 8 Rosalind Murphy in the middle of the pitch led to several wheeled 5m scrums by Edinburgh in the Dundee half. This resulted in Edinburgh’s vice captain Fiona Majorin scoring in the left corner taking the score to 19-5.

A restart by Dundee returned possession to Edinburgh and a scrum on Dundee’s 22m line saw quick hands from Edinburgh’s backs. This led to a break by Fleming down the left wing who offloaded to Ward who scored yet another try taking the score to 24-5.

Dundee fought bitterly to the end and held back any further attacks by Edinburgh and could not better their score. This left the final score 24-5 and a great first game for Edinburgh and first time captain and vice captain Lucy Allen and Fiona Majorin.
